| JD: How did you get into Financial Services?
FT: I started working as a Pensions Administrator in 2003, and moved on to manage the client services department of a large pension company. I decided at that point that I would prefer to spend my time dealing with clients’ complete financial situations rather than just pensions, so started training to be an Independent Financial Adviser. I also wanted to work for a small company to enable me to really get to know my clients so that I could build a strong relationship with them for the future.
JD: Then what happened?
FT: I started working for Barton Hatcher Ingram in April 2007 as a Trainee Financial Adviser under Beverley’s watchful eye. Although technically my knowledge was good Beverley helped to develop my skills dealing face to face with clients. I am now fully authorised to give independent advice and am thoroughly enjoying such close contact with my clients within a family type environment.
JD: Are you married?
FT: Yes I am. My husband Jonathan is a plumber based in Cardiff. He specialises in designing and installing high spec bathrooms and wet rooms and we are currently working on renovating our home in Cardiff.
JD: Do you have any specific qualifications?
|
 |
FT: Yes. I have a joint Honours Degree in Finance and Spanish and hold the Financial Planning Certificate additional qualifications in Investments, Long Term Care and have just taken an Advanced Taxation exam.
As a company we are working towards becoming Chartered Independent Financial Advisers which will mean I along with Louise and Beverley will be taking further exams in the future.
JD: What areas do you want to specialise in?
FT: Although I thoroughly enjoy working with all clients in the last year I have particularly focused on young families and small to medium sized businesses.
JD: What did you do before you starting working in the financial sector?
FT: Straight after graduating from University I moved to the north of Spain and taught English as a second language to Spanish nationals. My students ranged from 3 years to 65 years old. Not only did I become fluent in Spanish I also met my husband there.
JD: Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of work?
FT: I really enjoy keeping fit and will be taking part in a number of charity runs this year. In addition I also help my husband renovate our house at weekends and whenever we have spare time. Travelling and socialising are also favourite pastimes when they can be fitted in.
